Most women all know and agree that there are a few different body types. However, there are plenty of women out there who might not realise just how much of an impact their body types might have on the clothes they wear. The clothes worn by someone who has an hourglass body type will look vastly different on someone with a rectangular body type. In order to choose the clothes that suit you best, you will first want to make sure that you know what your body type is. Then you will want to look at clothes that are flattering to that specific body type.
How Do You Check Your Body Type?
Figuring out which body type you have is easy. All you will really need is a tape measure and knowledge of the different body types. The body types that you will want to consider are the apple, hourglass, pear, rectangle, and inverted triangle. The points of your body that you will want to measure are your shoulders, bust, waist, and hips. You might have to ask someone for help when you are measuring your shoulders. Each body type has a defining characteristic.
For instance, women with apple-shaped bodies are going to be wider and heavier on the top portion of their bodies than the lower portion, with weight usually gathering around the midriff.
The hourglass body type is one of the most iconic with the shoulders and hips being properly balanced and a definite waistline.
In a way, the pear body type could be considered the exact opposite of the apple body type. With pear bodies, everything comes down to the lower half of the body and it will be visually bigger than the top half of the body.
A rectangular body is fairly straightforward with well-balanced shoulders and hips but not so much of a waistline. The final body type, the inverted triangle, is characterised by having broader shoulders than hips.
How Do You Dress for Each Body Type?
When it comes to dressing in a way that flatters your body type, you are going to want to remember that you will want to flaunt the best part of your figure. For example, people who have apple-shaped bodies are going to want to look at flaunting their legs and necklines, drawing attention away from the midriff where weight tends to gather. This means you will want to stray away from anything figure-hugging. Since hourglass bodies are often considered the ideal body type due to their well-balanced proportions, you will more or less want to flaunt your waistline. For pear body types, you can actually give off the illusion that you have an hourglass body if you find the right clothes to enhance your top half. For rectangular body types, you will definitely want to focus on your arms and legs, staying away from dresses that are overarching. For the final body type, you will want to focus on bringing definition to your hips; if this is done right, it can even mimic an hourglass body. Make sure that you don’t draw too much attention to the top half of your body.
By making sure that your wardrobe is filled with clothes that flatter your body type, you can rest assured knowing that you will look spectacular any day of the week.
